JOSEPH BAK With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Joseph Bak on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at the age of 85, at the Holy Family Nursing Home. He has finally ended his long and difficult struggle with the effects of a debilitating stroke. We would like to offer our heart felt thanks to all the staff and caregivers of Holy Family Nursing Home for their compassionate care during his 18 year stay. There, Joseph had truly found himself a second home. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gean Bak, his daughter Christine (John) Berestiansky, his granddaughters, Leona (Eugene) Sembrat and Julia Berestiansky, his grandson Mark Berestiansky and his great-granddaughter Meira Sembrat and extended family in Winnipeg and Poland. He is predeceased by his son Frank Bak and most recently by his grandson Gregory Berestiansky. Joseph was born March 18, 1920 in Swilcza, Poland son of Jozef Bak and Wiktoria Kubicz. During the Second World War he spent several years in forced labour in Germany and from 1947 to 1948 he served with the United States Army. After the war he immigrated to Canada with his wife and new born daughter and settled in Winnipeg where he was employed as a furrier at D. Cohen and Company. Joseph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had a special appreciation for time spent with his family and some of his happiest moments were those at the cottage at Grand Beach with all of his grandchildren. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing trips with friends and his beloved son Frank. Joseph was also a proud member of Royal Canadian Legion 246. After his stroke, Joseph was the centre of visits and family meals at the Holy Family Nursing Home. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all of his family. Jaju, you are forever in our hearts. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. with an Oblate Father officiating. Viewing will be held one half hour prior to Mass. Interment will be in Holy Ghost Cemetery with reception to follow at Royal Canadian Legion 246, 1335 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joseph's name to CancerCare Manitoba 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
